City of Weldon Spring Offers Spring Internship

The City of Weldon Spring has filled its spring internship position.  The internship program focuses on public relations and began in early February and will end in May. Numerous quality students from the community who are enrolled at some of the local universities in the area applied.

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the selection of Carlos Jeer as the City’s newest Public Relations Intern. Carlos resides in Ballwin, but is from San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He is currently enrolled at Lindenwood University in St. Charles and is triple majoring in Public Administration, Economics and Political Science. Carlos Jeer said, “This is the ideal opportunity to further my knowledge and experience on how the public administration works. I am looking forward to serve the people with devotion and enthusiasm for the betterment of the community”.  We are very pleased to have Carlos join our city team as our intern; please join me in welcoming him.

Prospective candidates had to have an interest in public service, a desire to learn about municipal operations, exhibited the ability to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner and have completed a minimum of 60 college credit hours.  The program will be broken down into three primary parts or areas of emphasis.  The intern will be required to spend 1/3 of their time in the following areas:

1.      Shadowing/assisting each city department or staff member

2.      Attend at least one public meeting for every official Board, Commission and Committee of the City and provide a short written synopsis about each.

3.      Completing regular assignments and tasks with one such assignment being a larger project.

Both the City and the successful candidate stand to benefit greatly from participating in the internship program.  The primary benefits to the City will be additional assistance to members of staff, completion of individual assignments/projects and the means to provide for an ‘educated citizenry’.  The successful candidate will receive compensation for their time, may receive college credit for successfully completing the program, professional networking and they will gain invaluable real-world experience in the workforce.
