Kids Fishing Day will be here in no time! Please come out and join us on Saturday, June 10th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the City Lake behind City Hall.

Kids Fishing Day!

The Parks & Recreation Dept. will host our 13th Annual Weldon Spring Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 10th from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.   It doesn’t seem possible that the first kids fishing event was held here back on Saturday, May 22nd, 2004.   It has certainly grown each year into an outdoor event the kids now plan for.  It seems there is nothing like enjoying the fresh outdoor air while catching fish and eating grilled all beef hot-dogs. Boys & Girls ages to 16 years old are invited to attend this outdoor event along with a parent, guardian or grandparent.   Fishing, bait, photos, soda, all beef hot dogs & water are all FREE.   Our lake remains “catch and release” but the kids don’t mind.  They love to sit by the lake with their parents or grandparents waiting to catch “the BIG one”.  If you have kids or neighbors under the age of 16 that would like to get out in the fresh air and enjoy nature, you may want to plan on bringing them up on June 10th from 9 o’clock until noon and have some good old fashioned fun.  Remember, Kids Fishing is Catching On.”

The City will provide the bait and have “experts” on hand to help the kids bait their hooks and handle the fish again this year.  Our Park Guys, Richard & Howie along with Mayor Licklider look forward to helping the kids bait their hooks and take photos.  Each child will receive a gift pack at the end of the event.  So many of the kids brighten up for pictures with their first fish, or the biggest fish or who catches the most fish.  Photos will then be posted on the city’s website for all to view.

If weather causes cancelling that day a new date will be announced on the city website or can be obtained by calling our City Parks Department at (636)441-2110 ext. 104.
